Jenggala's Gallery Presents

"DANCE PIECES"

Paintings and Hand-Painted Ceramics Exhibition by

Anne van Borselen

August 26th 2005 - October 20th 2005

Anne van Borselen was born on June 11, 1937 in Surabaya, Indonesia. In the 1960s, she studied at the " Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten" ("Royal Academy of Art") in the Hague and Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Coming from a family of painters; on her mother's side, Imeria Sunassa, the famous Indonesian artist, and on her father's side great great grandfather, J.W. van Borselen (1825-1892), who painted King William III from The Netherlands. Anne is a ball of energy. She constantly creates on inspiration and her work conjures the fresh immediacy. Whilst being impulsive, she also has a high level of execution and a confident aesthetic

Her first exhibition was in Spain, on the island of Ibiza, where she had lived and painted for 5 years.

Anne paints directly on canvas, rice paper, panels, in mixed techniques; Acrylic, guache, oil or ink in classic or abstract style. She also makes sculptures in bronze, stone and fibre.

The figurative work can be linked to the beauty of artist such as Degas and the intensity of Rembrandt. On the topic of abstract, Anne is bold and provocative; contributing a humour and an easy-going edge to her style.

Her use of color is graceful and distinguished which can exist in harmony in all environments.

Anne said, "I discover beauty in everyday things. There is no real separation between the observer and the observed. Dance movements, compositions with figures. I have to enter into a sort of trance that will give me the feeling that my work is being guided by a cosmic force. In the end, the work itself takes over and you don't even know you are working."

Jenggala Art Gallery is proud to present the paintings and hand-painted ceramics exhibition by Anne van Borselen entitled "Dance Pieces" and other collections.
